Sea Wolf's Second Watch

The October 2026 issue of Bay & Delta Yachtsman tells the story behind the fireboat: how a December 2017 tragedy near the Tower Park bridge showed retired firefighter and captain John Garza what the Delta needed, how Pacific Coast Water Rescue and J&H Marine in Stockton came together, and how nearly two years of surveys, negotiations, and legal work ended with the City of Oakland approving the sale in May 2026 and the crew bringing Sea Wolf from Oakland to Stockton on July 27. The article also lays out the vessel's planned second career in emergency response, training, hazardous-materials awareness, and community education.

Azul Marine Group acquires retired Oakland fireboat Seawolf

A retired City of Oakland fireboat has a new mission. The Oakland City Council approved the sale of Seawolf to Azul Marine Group on May 5, 2026, the purchase agreement was signed in July, and on July 27 a five-member crew brought her from Oakland to J&H Marine in Stockton, where restoration will begin to return the vessel to operational status. Once restored, Seawolf will provide a platform for marine firefighting support, fire training and interagency exercises, search and rescue, water quality testing, and levee and shoreline inspection support on the Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Mokelumne Rivers. A public fundraising campaign is open to support relocation, shipyard work, inspections, and repairs.
